Heath Wade has been professionally photographing Newcastle and the Hunter Valley for the past 8 years. 
 
My first foray into photography came in my Christmas stocking as a shiny Polaroid SX70. 
Costing 2 weeks pocket money for one film pack, it was an expensive beast, but instant and great fun. 
 
Life moves on and over the years I dabbled in photography, never really knowing what was going on in those complicated innards. As a result my images never quite achieved what was in my mind's eye. 
 
Whilst living in London during the late 90's, my photography-mad flatmate, Renae, inspired all my dabblings and the photography bug bit. 
 
However, my visa was about to expire and my newly-found photographic obsession with red phoneboxes and Battersea Powerstation was to be shortlived. 
With winter looming, my journey home across Russia and Siberia opened my eyes to many photographic opportunities and cemented my new passion and drove my travelling buddy mad. I couldnt get enough! 
 
On returning to Oz, it wasn't long before the beautiful Irish princess arrived from the rolling green hills of the Emerald Isle, looking well....beautiful!  
(she rolls her eyes as I write this!) 
Together we started Heath Wade Photography. 
 
Trading my sparky's pliers for life behind the camera wasn't a hard choice. 
For years we operated out of a weekly market and shopping centres before taking the plunge in 2004, and opening our first Studio/Gallery at 39 Darby St, Newcastle. 
The hunt for the next great landscape took me to many beautiful parts of Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. 
 
A Turning point came after I purchased the 'ulimate Landscape camera'- the Linhof Technorama 617. With plenty of patience and practice under my belt at this stage, it didn't take long to come to grips with the big Linhof's 'ways'! 
 
With huge transparencies and mind-blowing quality the landscapes took on a new life as print sizes went massive along with the wow factor. Getting right up close to my subjects really gave a sense of being in the picture. 
 
 
After many requests over the years for Hunter Valley Weddings and Portraits I succumbed in 2005 and haven't looked back. 
Wow! What a buzz...the adrenalin pumps and the fun is contagious with both weddings and portraits. I really get caught up in the moment and let the creative fun run free. 
My clients really pick up on this and let loose, it's great fun! 
But it's when the kids want to hold your hand as you walk back to the car from a beach portrait shoot that you know you have done something right.  
I take this as a great compliment and I know their little personalities will be shining through as the slideshow plays after the shoot. 
 
Can you feel it? 
This is the measure of a successful shoot: Landscape, Portrait or Wedding and this is what I look for in my images. If my clients can feel the personality and emotion of the day, through the image, then we have achieved. 
However, it won't be long before I ask myself how can I do it better? 
And so on it goes...I love it!
